Dave, These do look a lot like the 'Thai hots' we Aussies grow everywhere. They're pretty hot, but they're usually prolific podders. Do they have a lot of small seeds inside the pods? These guys are usually thin skinned with a lot of seeds. I think the difference in heat between these and habs is that they're about 8 on the scale, but the heat is rougher and longer lasting than habs. They're great in curries or any asian food, and I use them to make my 'hell in a bowl', a version of sambal oelek which has become a favourite sambal in our house.
