Seed of the Franciscas and Red Savina are not stabilized yet and will produce
the odd plants with different pod shapes and color at about 8-15% (my
experience with Shepherd seed over the past 4 years). Jim Campbell told me he
only has about a 1% odd plant type with the Red Savina. He buys his seed direct
from GNS. May be a pattern, maybe not.

The size of fruit has a lot to due with soil, water and temperature. After the
fruit has set, provide plants with 1-2 inches of water per week. To much or to
little water will stall growth and stunt fruit size. Keep the soil moist, not
wet or dry. Also augment the soil with some 10-10-10 fertilizer and a little
Epson Salt. If the weather has or is very wet and/or cool there is not much you
can do. Field grower are always at the mercy of the elements, bugs, slugs,
deer, dogs, cats, birds, etc., etc. The most often quote is "Well, we can
always try again next year".

Enjoy the heat,
Steve
