Graham, After a few moment's web surfing, I can't help you at the present moment. The annual Fiery Foods Challenge is organised by the Chilli Press, in Manly. Their web address is http://www.chillipress.com.au/ but their web site is currently down. Last year the challenge was held over the weekend of 30 June, and 1st and 2nd of July, I would assume it would be held around the same time this year. Around march sometime, Michael Bailes of Fragrant Garden has his chilli festival on the Central Coast, about 1- 1 1/2 hour's drive north of Sydney. His web site address is http://www.fragrantgarden.com.au/ but this is also currently down. Last year it was 10, 11 and 12 March. It may be around the same time again this year, I'm not sure. While you're in Sydney, if you're after fresh chillies, I can point you to the stalls you should go to in the Flemington grower's markets (most days after 9.30 am, and Saturdays), although there are just run of the mill chillies there at the moment, by the end of the season I'll be buying habs by the case, for about $10/ 3-5 kg box. They're not cheap, but you can buy good dried chillies and Mexican food products at The Essential Ingredient, 4 Australia St (off Parramatta Rd) Camperdown. They're a 15 minute bus ride from the city. Get off just before Strathfield Car Radio, You'll see it. For restaurants in the city, try the Banana Leaf Curry House (1/605 George St Sydney) for good Indonesian Food, Chinta Ria (Level 2, The Roof Terrace, Cockle Bay Wharf, across Darling Harbour from the Darling Harbour complex) for great Malaysian food, Flamenco Viva (Miro's) Tapas Bar (76 Liverpool St) for great Tapas, and anything in the food court of the Haymarket shopping centre (right beside Chinatown) for good authentic Asian food.
