There was an article in one of last summer's issues of Mother Earth News title "Lasagna Gardening with Newpapers" or some such. Since I am now officially trailer trash, having bought a Candominium I have been reduced to container gardening. My irrigation system is an old fashioned sprinkler can (any idea how bleeding hard those are to find not made of plastic?), my weed control is a garden trowel and my deck is almost impossible to move around on without getting up against plants.
