There is some evidence that tobacco products in the garden or gardeners who
smoke may promote the growth of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) on chile and
tomato plants. If you are reasonably sure that a plant has TMV, you should
neither plant nor compost that seedling as there is no good cure.

BTW -- I smoke (I know, I know....) and I garden while smoking. I have
never had a problem with TMV (knock wood) but maybe I am just playing with
fire (no pun intended).

Folks I found the following posted on another board.

I thought it was against Fed. Law to
spread diseases.

I have some peppers that were given to me that have curled leaves. The
nursery attendant said they are diseased becasue they were handled in their
seedling state during transplanting by someone who smoked. Is there a
reaction with the plants and tobacco? I think she called the disease
"mosaic" and that it spreads to all the pepper plants in the nursery. I want
to know if this will effect the growing process or the amount of production
of the plants. Is it worth it to plant them? Thanks!
