Thanks for the reply's fellow chile heads!  Risa, I
see you're also in NJ, and the part of the Jal that
turned black was facing the sun, so I think you're
right on the money about it turning black from the
sun.  On the note about the Cayenne's being green,
I'll pick some and try them out, then pick some reds
and see what I like.  Mostly growing them for salsa
and pickeled peppers to get me through the cold
winters.  ;o)  Thanks again!
