Capsaicin, the main chemical in chiles that gives them the heat, causes the body to release natural, morphine like pain killers, endorphins. The endorphins cause the chile high, similar to the "runner's high" but much better imho. Easier on the feet. There are also topical creams that contain capsaicin. Don't know if it would help shingles. And I think the topicals work by a different route in that they cause the nerve cells to be less sensitive to pain as opposed to releasing endorphins. Could be wrong about that, tho. But it works. Might be worth looking into. Ciao, Riley
