I think you've misunderstood. We're talking about a condition where there is more water being evaporated from the plant then it can take up through its roots. There is plenty of water in the soil, the heat or wind is just removing it too fast for the plant to replace it, so the plant looks wilted. I don't share your enthusiasm for artificial additives to the soil, btw. Working a hearty scoop of coco fiber into the soil has much the same effect and no worries about environmental impact.
