You're so cheerful I almost hate to take exception! But in this neck of the woods (Texas) grits and cornmeal are two different things. Grits is ground hominy; cornmeal is, well, corn. While you can make mush out of both of them, to my mind grits tend to be smoother and creamier while cornmeal mush has more of a raw starchy taste and grittier(!) texture. I like them both, though. Besides, I've never known grits to be used for baking and the like. David "Zeb" Cook I also learned a > valuable lesson. Please don't spread the word that I haven't a clue...but, I > thought when a recipe called for grits, I should find a box that read, "grits" and > if it called for polenta, I looked for "polenta" so I learned an awesome thing > tonight and that is: polenta, grits and cornmeal are the same thing!!! > > Michelle in KC >
