I was wandering around out near the garden last night, looking at the remains of this year's work. I only had 7 plants, one of which never produced more than a 1/2 dozen pequin sized cayennes. All were store bought, so I never got really "into" gardening this year. Even though the other six plants did well I felt kinda down about the season. I never even pulled the lettuce that had bolted long ago. Then I noticed something amongst the weeds and lettuce. A lone 4" long pepper hanging from the frost ravaged remains of a volunteer chile plant. It had sprung up where I had planted jalapenos the previous year. The whole plant was barely a foot tall. I picked it, sampled it and found it to have serious heat for a jalapeno-cross-maybe. Put some in the dinner last night and enjoyed the feeling that El Grande had layed just a teensy little blessing on me. Perked up my mood considerably. Scott... basking in El Grande's glow... KCK
