If I were to make the recipe below a CH version, I would add the chiles at
the same time I add the baking soda.

Peanut Brittle

Ingredients

1 cup of Karo light or dark corn syrup
1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup water
 2 tablespoons margarine
1 1/2 cups salted peanuts
1 teaspoon baking soda

Preparation
Grease one baking sheet.
Mix the first 4 ingredients in heavy 2-quart saucepan.
Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and
mixture comes to a boil.
Continue cooking without stirring until temperature reaches 280oF, or until
a small amount of mixture separates into hard but not brittle threads in
cold water.
Gradually stir in peanuts so mixture continues to boil.
Cook while stirring frequently until temperature reaches 300oF, or until a
small amount of mixture separates into hard brittle threads in cold water.
Remove from heat and add baking soda; Blend quickly and thoroughly.
Immediately turn onto prepared baking sheet.
Spread mixture evenly to edges with greased metal spatula.
Cool, and break into pieces.
Makes about 1 1/2 pounds.
