A tale of great woe... My C. Pubescens (common name Manzano / Rocoto) just refuses to set fruit. It's in its second season, and growing along beautifully. Has heaps of pretty blue flowers, but none of them set. They appear to get pollinated, but a days after the flower petals have dropped away, the little stem (sorry, been too long since botany classes) that connects the flower head (which has a tiny little set fruit) to the main stem turns a pale greeny yellow colour and just breaks off at the base. Very frustrating ! I've got four other varieties of Chile sucessfully setting fruit growing nearby, C. Baccatum (Aji Yellow), C. Frutescens (Tabasco), C Chinense (Orange Hab) and a C. Annum (Serrano). Any ideas ? Just wait coz it's still quite young ? It is only the spring of its second season. regards, jr BTW - It is Sydney, Australia relatively close to the coast, and so our climate is sub-tropical, but it hasn't been particularly steamy this year. Very temperate in fact.
