There was a 7' tall bird pepper that Dave had his picture taken > with- it also had quite a bit of shade fro the overhead natural canopy. > I believe that in the 'natural' setting, these chiles would have shade > as well. We're talking near tropics here folks and that means DENSE > natural overhead canopy. Jamaica is a lush island. Birds don't also > normally sit on the ground to poop. This means that any droppigns that > contain seeds are already going to fall near shade Gotta agree with the knuckle dragger about shading plants. I think the ideal would be some combination of shade and sun. The shade cloth on my greenhouse is about 50% and the plants seem to be pretty happy. Unfortunately I have to share the greenhouse with Celeste so I don't have nearly enough room:-) That 7' bird produced some seriously hot stuff. I thought it was almost as hot as the habs and bonneys and the burn lasted longer. Fortunately there was ususally a guy with a machete nearby to whack up a coconut and give us something to drink. Almost as good as the Red Stripe back at the hotel and a whole lot cheaper. If the Jamaica images are still on Jim's site, they are worth a look. I was going to suggest the bird pic for the Rogue's gallery but Jeff already has me there looking like an ancient hippie in my "Peace through Pain" Habanero tee.
