Correct again on it being bone meal. I don't know if I count as a professional or not, but I only use a single application of 12-12-12 before planting & nothing else. Chiles don't respond that well to fertilizers (unless there is a lack) and nothing makes up for good soil. If you have good soil, then you really don't need much else. In heavy crop years (I think I can remember back to one) aometimes the plants can produce to the point that they get a little nitrogen starved. This is cured by a foliar application of a low N fertilizer, just to give them a little boost. Very often folks have a tendency (me included) to look very hard for stuff to manage, just so that we can be doing something :-) Hope this helps! -Jim C Mild to Wild
