LOL I may have been born in Ohio, but lived in SF Bay Oh my god Never? That's a sin, dear. SIN. But you may have just saved yourself from eternal damnation, so you can relax now :) My recipe for black eyes: Usual bean prep if using dried. Saute onion and chiles in a pot in butter or bacon fat (usu. method is to add bacon, naturally). When softened, toss in beans and enough water to come 1 inch above beans. Cover and simmer until done. S&P to taste when beans are done. Often, as done for red beans, some folks like to mash up some of the beans and stir to make the liquid thick. I add a bit of thyme sometimes. Often leave out the meat (a sin in itself) and make it vegetarian. Damn, I like beans. Time to eat... -- Peace, Hendrix, and Chiles....... Rael64 Monk of the TCS Order of Enlightened Twister [TM!]
