> > > It is usually accompanied by wasabi - a green horseradish, which, > even if not chile, is capable of lighting up your life. > Now <that> is an understatement! My first experience with wasabi/raw fish was when an amour insisted on dragging me to a sushi bar. I wasn't wild about the idea, but at the time I was wild about her, so off we went. Everything was going well, nice conversation, the food was decent, until I made the mistake of thoroughly dredging a slice of raw tuna through some green stuff in a small bowl. Before she could stop me, I popped it in my mouth...a small, exceedingly nasty explosion occurred, somewhere in the vicinity of my head. Everyone in the place turned around and looked at the fool gaijin whooping and gasping and carrying on like the end of the world was nigh...my GF stood up and said "wasabi" in a clear, carrying voice. There was general laughter, then everyone returned to their meal. That is, except me. I was still flopping around on the floor like a dying fish, attempting to breathe... The girlfriend is long gone, but my respect for wasabi remains. Nothing in the chile world has the immediate impact of a big bite of wasabi... Richard
