Hey Tuck! Yep, I have heard of this soapy deer deterrent before. A friend of mine in arizona does this to keep away the hooved invaders away from her garden. Don't have any idea of the science behind it but apparently it works. About those little furries, I got a couple of them hopping around the back field plus that good fur nothing squirrel (except for putting in a stew) terrorizing all in the back yard, except when the Blue Jays come around to harrass him. Then he hauls out!
