I was jus' lookin' on the internet and I found some eastern european "sour pickle" recipes that used "sour salt". Looked up "sour salt" and it is available and it is made out of citric acid-an old, old, eastern european way of picklin'. No dill. Some of the sour pickle recipes used mustard and alum or mustard seed. No dill, just brine, perhaps vinegar, but the old eastern europe way was brine and "sour salt". That may be the key.
