Powders are the best for riding in vehicles, since they don't need to be kept cool and generally have better shelf life (or, "glove compartment life"). It's hard to find a flavor-neutral sauce that just gives clean heat; most of them are comitted to some flavor besides pepper. Having a variety of powders is a good idea, too. Have one plain and one smoked, maybe also have some home-formulated seasoned pepper and seasoned salt. Refill used seasoning containers, so if you leave one behind it's no great loss. (Makes a good give-away, too.) The moderates here need their own smoked pepper. I get into the smoked habs, mainstream chipotles have jalapeno-level heat, but there isn't much on the market for people who like smoky flavor without strong heat.
