Hi Risa, I don't have a clue as to how many varieties there are. I get messages about once a week asking for information on varieties that I have never heard of. My guess is that they number in the thousands. I sell seeds for about 60-70 peppers each year and bet that if I looked around not very far I could find 60 varieties of just Jalapenos. Someone just posted about a Thompson & Morgan variety called "Super Habanero". I quit subscribing to the T & M catalog a few years ago because they didn't sell anything hot. Guess I'll have to re-subscribe. It was a nice seed catalog. Just not very good for peppers.
