About 10 years ago, an American cookbook was published that garnered all the prestigious industry accolades for being the "Joy of Cooking" for American afficianados of the wonderfully spicy cuisines of India. Last week, the new edition was reviewed in the LA Times food section. Iimmediately thereafter, I phoned my local BookStar and ordered my copy which came yesterday. It is INCREDIBLE! The recipes are concise, clearly written with both metric and American measurements. There is a vast appendix ("From A-Z" which clues in those unfamiliar with some of the mysteries and techniques of the Indian kitchen, along with many entries elaborating on how the various spice mixtures, unfamiliar vegetables, etc. are either prepared for or used. It is a veritable goldmine! The title is: _Lord Krishna's Cuisine: The Art of Indian Vegetarian Cooking (More than 500 Recipes from India's Greatest Culinary Tradition_ by Yamuna Devi, Dutton, NY, 1999. 802 pages, including, glosses, indexes and mail order sources. My copy cost me, I believe, about $34.00. I cannot recommend this wonderful compendium to any chile head highly enough! Those of you who enjoy cooking with our favorite condiment will enjoy reading this wonderful book at night before going to bed, as I do. It's one of the most thoroughly enjoyable cookbooks in my collection. Ron Hay, Van Nuys, CA
