Hi, I have just been lurking on this list for a few months now, enjoying all the great recipes and stuff, but the slug topic caught my eye this morning. Sorry if someone else has already suggested this, I'm way behind on my email as we've been out of town. The method that my husband and I have been using for years seems to be working, we have less and less slugs each year, and we live in Washington state! (Quite wet) We fill a spray bottle with a mixture of ammonia and water and walk around the yard and garden every morning and evening and spray the little critters when we see them. They just sort of dissolve, just like using salt only the ammonia doesn't hurt your plants. I'm not sure of the exact proportion, probably 1/3 ammonia to 2/3 water, but you can experiment and see what strength will work, it may be you can even cut the ammonia down more. The one important thing is to use the non-sudsy ammonia. When we first started doing this we would spray 50 easily each time, now it's hard to even find them. It is a cummulative effect, so don't expect immediate results, but it does help. Susan - WA
