[CH] big bugs

This morning I checked my gardens and found tomato 
horn worms on my tomato plants.  I removed the 
offensive critters and took appropriate (for me) 
measures to eliminate any unseen relatives.  The 
thing that amazed me was these things were HUGE.
Bigger than any other hornworm I've seen... over 3 inches
long and at least half an inch tall.  Anybody else got biggun's 
like this?  The fat bastages sure did splatter good when I 
smooshed them.
