From: RisaG <<Next year, mid year, I am moving to my new house in Oxford, NJ and there have been spottings of Bears, Deer and Raccoons>> I agree with the folks telling you about urine for the deer repellent. Man and dog urine have worked for me. Also for some reason Dial soap works when hung from the tree they are nibbling. You can thread yarn right thru some of the hotel size bars or put them in a net bag and hang them. They have worked better than urine for me because they last thru more rain storms. Also effective is the hair, I use dog hair from the groomers. It also makes great nesting material for birds, they love it. We have been having raccoon attacks of our bird feeders so I greased the poles to the feeders with Pam cooking spray. Very effective and fun to watch them try to climb and slide down the pole. You do have to re-apply every two or three days, though. Someone told me that vaseline lasts longer but I wasn't sure what that might do to their coats or tummys if they try to lick it off. I am pretty sure that a raccoon ate one of my goldfish in my half barrel water garden. So to protect the others and to be sure he doesn't find his way on up to the fern with the wren's nest (they have hatched! so tiny and cute with *big* mouths always open) we rigged up motion detector lights and Rex-10 (an electronic dog barker). Now when a coon approaches the patio with the goldfish and wren's nest he starts a lightshow and ruckus with the ferocious sounding dog barking that sends him running. I've given up on the squirrels, I just feed them now. As for the bears, I'd just suggest not leaving any pic-a-nic baskets around. Deb in Houston
