Hi, I live in the in the very heavily wooded Ozark mountains of North Central Arkansas. If a wild animal wants to get in your garden, they will. Our luck seems to be holding out this year I think because of our two dogs. They urinate and deficate around our fenced in garden on a regular basis. Deer especially dislike dogs because it is still legal to hunt with them, in certain hunting zones here. Good luck on your move to the country, wild animals are often better neighbors than many two legged homo-sapien types.
