In late June I received messages from two list members saying that the Chimayos which they were growing from seed purchased from me had croaked. It took longer that I had hoped, but on July 7 I planted 12 each of the seed lot which I sold to them and from a new seed shipment which I had just received. First germination was on 7/12 and last was on 7/19. I continued to keep the trays at 80F with bottom heat until 8/7 but got no more germination. Of the old seeds, 10 of 12 germinated and of the new, 11 of 12 germinated. On 8/7 I moved the seedlings to the greenhouse where they continue growing today and several have buds which should blossom any day now. All are healthy plants from 4" to 6" high and they would be ready for transplanting into the garden if winter weren't coming. I do intend to keep one of each potted in the greenhouse to see if they both are true to variety, but I have a lot of faith in my supplier, so don't expect a problem. I don't know what caused the plants to die in either case, but am comfortable with the fact that it wasn't a seed problem. My best guess would be damping off, but that's just a guess. As always, I guarantee my seeds and will replace, credit or refund as my customers desire, some questions asked:-)) I also received several messages from list members who said their Chimayos were doing fine. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail them off-list. Dave Anderson Tough Love Chile Co. http://www.Tough-Love.com Chilehead@Tough-Love.com
