Chilehead Riddle..the results are in!
=====================================
The main thing that I learned here is that Chileheads are real smart
people. I received over 150 responses and they tracked at about 70%
correct. Many that were wrong were real close. I don't think it was
too easy because one Chilehead took it into the office and nobody could
figure it out. Besides, I didn't get it either (although me and algebra
never got along).
Another neat thing about this contest was the great, enthusiastic
response that I received. There were a lot of comments about enjoying
the fun. So I'll be sure to come up with other neat contests. I
enjoyed seeing the interaction and I thank you for it. If you have an
idea for a riddle, puzzle, contest, etc. please send it in.

I wish everyone with the correct answer could be a winner. We put all
of the subscribers with a correct answer into a drawing and chose 4 at
random. Those lucky genius Chileheads will receive a Free bottle of hot
sauce. It will either be Caribbean Habanero or a Southwest Jalapeno or
a Louisiana Cayenne. I hope they enjoy it.
The winners are:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Fred Sundstedt
Machesney Park, Illinois

Randy Alberts
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Pam Raskob
Flagstaff, Arizona

Kristin Shriner
Lincoln, Nebraska
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I'll also list our 4 winners for all to admire in our Pepper Joe
"Winners Circle" on our website.
Now, what was the correct answer and how do you arrive at it?

Answer: 7 Chiles.
Explanation:
You must go from the final bridge and work backward.
Obviously he must have had 1 Chile when he entered the 3rd bridge.
Working back through the bridges, it is a simple matter of binary
progression. Here is how it goes:
0-1-2-4 which equals 7. If there had been a 4th bridge, it would
be 0-1-2-4-8 which equals 15 Chiles.

Again, I had a real blast with this contest and I'll work on having more
fun contest. Hopefully the next one will not be mathematical for us
math-challenged chileheads.
