[CH] another word about dehydrators

One of the reasons I bought the first Excalibur was a "melt-down" of a
popular brand dehydrator. Fortunately I had it in my spare bathroom,
on a ceramic tile counter and a tile backsplash.

It got hot enough to crack the tiles and had it been in my kitchen I
am sure I would have had a fire.
I was awakened at 3 a.m. by the smoke alarm which is also a heat sensor
because there was no smoke, but the temperature in the bathroom was
considerable. The appliance wire had gotten so hot the insulation had
burned off but had not shorted out.

After that incident, I changed every receptical in my house to the
safety ones which cut off the power if there is any problem with an
appliance.

When I contacted the company, the only reply I received was a statement
that such an even could only happen if I was not using the appliance the
way it was supposed to be used and there is a statement in the
literature that the appliance should not be left unattended.

Huh? Well, needless to say, I had nothing more to do with that
company. I tried a couple of others but they simply did not provide
what I wanted.
