We wanted something different the other night, and as I had a package of Pita bread, I thought that I would figure out a sorta Jamaican pattie, or whatever they are called! So I made up this mess, and slapped it into the half pitas...it was pretty good, so I wrote it down, but what to call it? 1 lb lean ground beef 1 sweet potato, peeled, and cut 1/2 " dice 1 carrot, scraped & sliced 1 onion, medium dice 1 cup frozen green peas 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp cloves 1/2 tsp allspice 1 tsp finely chopped fresh ginger 2 cloves of garlic, minced 1 hab, finely diced, seeded pinch of Jim's Smoked hab powder, salt and freshly ground black pepper Put about 1 tbls oil, I used olive oil, in a 10" skillet, get it medium hot, and add potato, carrot, onion, garlic and hab(s), and let this cook slowly, until the onion and the sweet potato are soft...remove and keep warm, and then add the beef to the same pan...cook this until no longer pink, add the remaining ingredients, and about half a cup of water, mixed with a tbls of flour and simmer this for about 10 minutes, throw in the reserved veggies, mix well, and add the spices, the peas, and cover for a minute or two. Warm pitas, cut in half, and fill each half with a lettuce leaf, then spoon the mess into that! I served this with garlic mashed potatoes...this should serve four.Enjoy, Cheers, Doug in BC
