Pods, NutCaseBob mentioned looking for a chile patch for his vest. I think I already mentioned here that at the Grove City chili cook-off, I found a vendor selling shirts, caps, etc. with chile patch themes. They had a programmable sewing machine, and for $5 they sewed a patch on the flap of my shoulder bag. You might try finding someone who has the right machine and patterns, probably at some big festival like that - or else hit the yellow pages. I made a try at making my own seasoning, kind of like a chile powder, last night I had oven-dried peppers, onion, and garlic. I was surprised at the amount of flavor/aroma from the onions; I could have used half as much. I could add cumin powder to make it like chile powder, but I may leave it as it is to try it with just that strong toasted-onion aroma. Now if I could just find an innocent little bowl of chicken soup... Strange freeze note: We had a few nights below 30F in central Ohio, and my pepper gardens are shot. I saw it coming a while ago and moved my potted plants inside, except for the ones I was willing to lose. Reluctantly, I gave up on my 3-year-old Orchid pepper, because it never bore fruit all season, and being the tallest plant, it took up the most room indoors. It was out on the patio during the freezes, next to the garden, but it isn't dead. It's just looking a little disheveled, a bit down at the corners, but not wilted like all the other plants. It's like that scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail: "I'm not dead yet!" Well, this is the time of year that I envy the posters from the southern hemisphere. Aw yeah, you'll all be bombarding us with sweet little stories about how your tender seedlings are rising to the fresh spring air. I'll be digging my snow boots out of the closet soon.
