Dr. G Thanks for reminding me. Folks before you add lime, take or get a soil pH sample/reading done first. Many areas the soil pH is alkaline to begin with, adding lime will make it worse. Here is a soil pH adjustment chart Adjusting soil ph pH..Change....Material......Sandy......Loam......Clay ..............used..........loam.......soil......soil from..to.....................lbs to apply per 100 sq ft 7.5...6.5....Sulfur*.........1 1/2.....2..........2 1/2 7.0...6.5....Sulfur*.........1/4.......1/2........3/4 6.5...6.5.......................................... 6.0...6.5....Limestone.......3.........4..........6 5.5...6.5....Limestone.......5.........8..........11 5.0...6.5....Limestone.......7........11.........15 4.5...6.5....Limestone.......10......13.........20 4.9...6.5....Limestone.......12......16.........23 * Iron Sulfate or Aluminum sulfate may be substituted but will require 2 1/2 times more material to make the equivalent pH change. Aluminum sulphate will increase the salt level of your soil. DO NOT Apply more that 1 LB sulfer or 5 lb Limestone per 100 sq ft at 1 time, Split spring and fall applications over several years Byron
