Maybe you guys arent giving genetic manipulation a fair chance. A real chilihead would be trying to over express the Capsaicin gene to make his peppers even hotter. Who wouldnt want to buy Habs with a million or more Scoville units? Just think, the fruits from just one good hab plant could last you all year :) You could even make them bigger like bells so you wouldnt have to pick a lot to fill your freezer! Maybe clone in some cilantro and tomatillo flavor genes and we could have instant salsa in a pepper. Jack Additionally, I keep my ear pretty close to the ground on what goes on in the pepper biz and am unaware of any Genetically Engineered Peppers, let alone any coming to market. The last time I contacted a lab that certifies seeds as being free from genetic manipulation, (a couple of months ago), they told me that there was no genetic capsicum manipulation being done. They were testing soybeans, corn and cotton as I remember. The only mention I've seen of genetic manipulation of peppers was a prospectus from someone in a third world country which I seriously doubt has the technical resources to do much more than hybridize.
