> About Bell Peppers - Red, green, orange or topaz, yes they are bitter > yes they are mild (an understatement) and are there several great > recipes for bell peppers I'd eat? Yes. I've never thought of bells a bitter. Certainly they are not sugary sweet, nor are they sour, salty or hot. But, bitter? Try sucking a non-enteric coated asprin if you want bitter. I'd say that they have an oily (as in crude oil) overtone to their flavour raw. Their flavour cooked is much different... but, I can't detect bitter anywhere in either state. But, bells do have a distinctive taste - one which I quite like. > I am still waiting to hear from anyone in the group if cross pollination > is possible with Bells and Habaneros. I too would love to have Bell > Peppers with scorching heat. Bells are in a different grouping from habaneros. I think bells are in capiscum annum and habs are in chinense. It would be akin to crossing a camel with a zebra in the animal kingdom. Given a good enough profit motive the folks at Monsanto or Dow could probably manage it. But not gene splicers... probably not. ENJOY!!! -------- UNCLE DIRTY DAVE'S KITCHEN -- Home of Yaaaaa Hooooo Aaahhh!!! HOT SAUCE and Hardin Cider
