When I was in Central America years ago they would harvest the stalk of bananas then cut the tree off about half way up from the ground. I don't know why as I wasn't really interested in bananas or gardening back then. I grew some on the south side of my house in Texas once and did the same thing and the tree grew out again quicker. Anyone else got any ideas? Any banana growers out there? George
