Catherine, my hubby Jim said right away that we had better put up
a chicken wire fence. We've grown veggies in that same spot for
15 or 20 years, right up against the warm side of the white house,
but have never lost any plants to the varmints except for one year
on the corn.
We were away for 2 weeks camping with all the kids at Lake George
and returned home to find that the immature corn ears had
disappeared, but the stalks were strong and upright. Weeks later the
baby sitter from across the street sauntered over, and asked me why
my corn was so small and tasteless...............................
