Off-white gives a room a very different feel than white-white.

It depends on the quality of the light in the room.  I tend to avoid 
colors that are easily named.  If a name doesn't immediately spring 
to mind when you see a particular color then I'm apt to like it.  
I don't much care for blue, green, tan or pink either though I do 
like some peaches, yellows and lavenders.   I don't really like most 
pastels but I do like more intense colors as well as lots of 
neutrals.  I also like ocher washes and ocher-look paints that are 
finally "coming in" now.
