Hello, C.L., if the pansies you bought were what we call
"winter hardy", they will require no care all winter long.
In a cold and snowy winter, they will bloom -- yes, BLOOM --
right after a snowfall has melted down! In a terribly mild winter,
they hardly bloom at all... however, once spring arrives, you will
have a jump start on everyone with your pansies, because they
will be ready to grow and bloom way before new pansies arrive
on the market!

That's been my personal experience here in zone 6.
