A good deal of the photosynthesis takes place in the shallows, near the shore, where it would be dumped. And if I recall correctly, a long winter usually means at least a minor fish kill in most of the Great Lakes, which sounds to me like a lake that's on the ragged edge of having enough oxygen as is. I think the people you probably want to ask are real limnologists... it's been 25 years since I was around a limno class. There's probably more to it than I know. Kay
