[gardeners] Need tree suggestions

I'm re-landscaping the area around my front door, and I need some tree
suggestions.
Here's what I'm looking for:

-small, 10-15' tops
-upright habit, not a "fat" tree
-open branching
-attractive foliage, or attractive trunk - it's a front-door tree, it has to
look good up close

It will have eastern exposure, morning light only (until 1:00 PM or so),
moderate moisture
(not too dry, not too wet), and will be well-protected from wind. I prefer
no foliage in winter,
because I want to be able to string lights in it at Christmas, plus I just
like the naked effect <g>.
Berries would be OK, too. I want to put one on either side of the walk. A
shrub that could be
trained as a tree would be OK, also.

I'll put crepe myrtles there if I don't get a better suggestion, but I
already have several of those,
and they get used so much in the South, so I'm looking for an alternative.
