Hi All,
The garden is nearly in overdrive. The tomatos are just now starting
to ripen, picked 10 today. Green beans and Yellow Wax are doing so well
that in addition to eating all we can hold we put up 14 quarts Thursday
night. Tuesday night we picked a contractors type wheelbarrow full of
Yellow Straight Neck squash and zucchini. Picked more of both today.
Peppers are doing really well. Still digging more new potatos.
Today we put up 6 quarts of pickles, 6 half pints of grape jelly, 8
half pints and 1 pint of blackberry jelly. Judy also made 3 of her Great
Aunt Vida's squash casseroles in 9 inch aluminum pie pans and froze
them.
Tomorrow we are going to can stewed zucchini , jalapenos and
Cubanelles. We'll pick Blue Lake and Kentucky Wonder pole beans for the
first time, and more Yellow Wax and Green beans.
The sweet corn is beginning to make ears. The Yellow Eyed Beans are
also making beans. I am going to replant to see if I can get better
germination. I am beginning to suspect they do better in hotter weather
like Southern Peas. Trying to find some Pinkeye Purple Hull Pea seeds
locally. It is about time to plant Southern Peas and Peanuts.
Well that's the gardening news from Bastrop Co. Hope everyone's
garden is doing well.
    Happy Gardening,
    Allen
