The wonderful Boston Pops orchestra performed a great concert last night, telecast by A&E channel. I wonder how PBS lost the rights to the live concert. The "national orchestra" has pookier programs and plays sluggishly. I don't know who the present conductor is, but Rostropovich was a plodding conductor, IMHO. Maybe he set the tone for the whole orchestra. I think Keith Lockhart is a fabulous conductor for the Boston Pops, and there was some unscripted fun and hilarity after he yielded his podium to Seiji Ozawa. But it must have been hot. People in the orchestra were beyond bitching about it. Many looked as though they were going to collapse. How hot was it? Those of you who have watched the best July 4th concert around know there are always audience members who do a "rockettes" chorus line dance during Stars and Stripes Forever, but last night Ozawa and Lockhart did some of that right back. Great fun. Margaret L
