My tree does that when it's heat stressed and not getting enough water.
Fig trees need about a six inch deep mulch out to the drip line as their
roots are very close to the surface. Also need about 35 gallons of water
a week to stay healthy. I feed mine a little 8-8-8 about twice a year,
when leaves come out in spring and again when the fruit first starts
showing.
