Penny with all the rain I am sure the ground is soaked so that makes any tree much
easier to topple in those conditions. I am also guessing that the larger and heavier
the tree the less sway and flexibility comes into play so instead of just part of the
tree bending with the pressure of the wind maybe the whole tree gets a big push in
the soggy ground. When you can get to looking around a bit also check to see if the
uprooted trunks of the trees have and rotten areas in them weakening them.
