Matt, that was an easy fix!  Many thanks -- and I'll pass it on.

I am advised that the most important thing you can do is to close
down your computer before midnight on 12/31 and morning on
1/01/2000 -- and almost all modern computers will breeze
right thru.  The reasoning is technical, but this does give the
computer a chance to carry thru by itself.

They further add that if you boot up the computer let's say at 
12:10am, year 2000, and it still says 1999, you can then 
manually change the date to 2000.  Remember, this is 
applicable to a modern computer -- a Pentium or Pentium II --
and not necesarily to an older one.  I have no instructions on
handling the Apple.
