Pauline, it may not be the case for lantana, but up north here
we regard the snow as our friend in wintertime. It protects the
shrubs from winterkill..! It insulates the plants, and prevents
the winter winds from drying them out.

I do love lantana, but here it is an annual. This past summer I had
one with four colors, instead of the usual three. Made a big and
beautiful showy outdoor hanging pot. The year before I discovered
that the robins had made a nest in that pot! It was great fun to watch
them quietly thru the back door -- and the poppa robin was so
protective of the area! They made quite a mess of the lantana, but
it was worth it.
