Was rudely awakened at 0102 this morning by a monstrous blast of thunder and the night sky was lit up by the subsequent lightening bolt. The rain came in deluges until about 0600 and then slowed to a drizzle. After I got back from my rounds at about 0900 I noticed the rain gauge was full. Since it only measures 4 inches I have no idea how much actually fell. No buckets were left sitting out yesterday to help me gauge it. Since we got 3.25 inches yesterday we have now had more than 7 inches rain in 24 hours and more is forecast. Hopefully the poor farmers around here are getting enough rain to plant rice and soybeans to help pull them out of the hole the last few years drought has dug. Unfortunately it means no getting in the garden today until it drys up a bit. Tends to compress the dirt even though it is heavily mulched. Probably gonna have to pick green beans again though and I know the chard needs picking again. Decisions, decisions. George, who actually enjoys the rain and stayed up a while watching it fall. Must be from living in the desert for several years.
