Ron, I think the animals know when fruit is ripe by the
smell.  It's in their genes...

Another thought on that subject:  when Jimmie and I were
married, more than half a century ago, he made it very clear
that he hated perfume.  That means, of course, that I never
wore any -- nor did my four daughters, come to think of it. 

This morning I went to police my rose bed, and I realized that
I hate the fragrance of the roses! Now that has to be an
astonishing revelation -- how can anyone possibly dislike
the most fundamental romantic come-on in nature...? 

No, I don't think it's in the genes, in my case. It must be a
learned response to outside influences, don't you think? 

OTOH, I love the smell of ripe fruit.
