If you're in the part of the country that has squash vine borers, that's 
probably your answer. If you're in the West, it's probably squash bugs. 
Pick a dead leaf off the ground. Are there little grey scurrying bugs? 
Squash bugs. They poison the plant, somehow, and it looks like it's dry 
before it dies, but it isn't.  Margaret L
