I like them because they can take full shade and still bloom > well. George, Impatiens are perennial down this way. They will continue to grow in protected micro climates unless there is a really hard freeze. After mild winters I have taken the weed whacker to cut them back for more compact spring bloom. One neighbor of mine has the perfect front yard for them. I know he hasn't planted them since we moved here. Most years he weed whacks the entire yard, with a few small areas that reseed themselves.
