Hi all,
Got my first Poppy flowers today! There are 4 yellow poppies and one =
pale pink that have bloomed among the Artemesia "Powis Castle." This is =
really thrilling for me because I have never had any luck with Poppies =
growing in FL before. I think the only reason these few made it was =
because of the protection and extra moisture that the Artemesia kept in =
the ground. I hope to get a few seeds out of them to replant in the =
same area for next fall. =20

In other news I blew my gardening budget. I got two new Hydrangea for =
the shady area of the back yard. They are Florida grown, from my =
favorite nursery. Yes, they were terribly expensive, and are beautiful =
against the back fence, behind my bromeliads. They are in full bloom =
with lots of new flowers opening up so should keep the show going for a =
few more days. There is also some new Ajuga purpurea in front of the =
bromeliad. Together they all look wonderful. To bad the bromeliad are =
past their prime or it would make a great picture. Heck, I will take =
one anyway. I also purchased some fungus spray for the roses and some =
new rose food, as I had run out. Anyway, now there is something really =
nice to see from the new garden swing. =20

I also weeded out a new area that has some canna coming up in it. I had =
forgotten that the canna were there as the weeds had completely taken =
over. This area had been underwater a couple of years ago, and I had =
ignored it since. Slowly it will get cleaned out and replanted so we =
don't have to mow it anymore. =20

The gardenia that has had the terrible aphid problem seems to be doing =
just great now. A little Safer's and the aphids are mostly dead. =
Course, that means all the buds are now covered with little black dots =
of dead bodies. I will take it outside and spray those off with the =
hose this afternoon, once watering times have begun. Today is my =
watering day so I can get away with it. =20
